Overgate Hospice Big Build Appeal

Overgate Hospice has been at the heart of the Calderdale community since 1981, providing specialist support to local people living with a life-limiting illness, supporting a population of over 210,000 people. It is now essential we modernise the Hospice’s facilities to ensure that we can support more people to live their final years, months, weeks, and days to the fullest. To do this, we need to carry out a large-scale redevelopment of the Hospice site, building a new purpose-built 16 bed Inpatient Unit, and significantly expanding and upgrading our Day Hospice facilities.

Our Big Build appeal will transform the way we deliver end of life care in Calderdale, we will be able to care for more patients and their families in state-of-the-art facilities. After an initial Hospice investment, we have been raising funds privately from individuals, grants and foundations for the last few years, we are delighted to share due this support we have raised £9.8m of the £12.7m project costs required.

This means that we have reached 77% of the fundraising target and were able to share with the wider community and ask them for help to raise the remaining £2.9m. The public phase of the appeal has launched with a foundations appeal sent to everyone in Calderdale. We will also be working with businesses across Calderdale to promote our Bigger Together Business Club and we will have lots of exciting events planned throughout the two-year public appeal. We will continue to care for our patients and their families throughout the build and therefore it is important we continue to raise funds for our core running costs during this phase.
